Mr. Thuan said the Prime Minister is calling for fast, safe, and effective vaccine production. The homegrown Nanocovax vaccine is undergoing a third-phase clinical trial.

"There are three types of domestic COVID-19 vaccines undergoing clinical trials right now: Nanocovax, Covivac, and ARCT-154," Mr. Thuan said, "We expect to finish research on these vaccines this year, so we can produce and distribute them independently by early next year. We are also speeding up importing vaccines. It is estimated that over 30 million vaccine doses will arrive in Vietnam by next month.”

Lieutenant General To An Xo, Chief of the Ministry of Public Security Office, said the presence of army and public security forces in the south is essential to fight COVID-19. He stressed that public security forces have done their best to ensure security and safety while assisting in pandemic prevention and control.

Major General Nguyen Van Duc of the Vietnam People’s Army's General Department of Politics, said the Ministry of National Defence has sent more than 120,000 officers, soldiers and militia members to southern localities to help the fight against COVID-19. The army will build prevention and control plans at higher levels and stay ready to assist forces not only in the south but also in other localities as necessary.
