40th anniversary of the return of imprisoned revolutionaries

(VOVworld) – The Liaison Committee for Phu Quoc Former Prisoners held a meeting on Monday to mark the 40th anniversary of the return of imprisoned revolutionaries to Hanoi.

President Truong Tan Sang, a former prisoner in Phu Quoc and hundreds of other veteran political prisoners attended the event. Having been captured and tortured by the enemy, they kept staunch and fought with spirit to return victorious.  Nguyen Van Chien is the Head of the Committee: "During their time in various prisons, the revolutionary prisoners didn’t waste their time. They opened literary classes, political and vocational training and formed groups for artists, chess players and poets. These activities not only further cultivated the revolutionary spirit in these soldiers, it also helped keep their trust. It also sometimes converted the guards and officials. We will continue to maintain this tradition of patriotism and revolution, and continue to unite to build and defend the nation".
