Addressing a celebration attended by 2,700 delegates in Thanh Hoa province on Sunday evening, Mr. Nghia called the bonding of northerners and southerners during war time a symbol of the great solidarity of the Vietnamese people and the historical strength that drives the country forward in today's era.

“We need to further strengthen our close and effective bonding. In war, we shared bread and butter. In peace we must join hands, maximize the strength of each locality, and support each other for a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, and happy Vietnam," said Mr Nghia.

The celebration inaugurated a Memorial Zone for southern compatriots, officers, soldiers and students sent to the north.
