ADB Country Director for Vietnam Shantanu Chakraborty said the ADB applauds the extraordinary efforts of the Government and people of Vietnam to recover from the typhoon.

He said that the ADB grant will support wider government efforts to deliver immediate humanitarian relief and that the ADB is committed to working with the government on post-disaster efforts in affected provinces to build back better and improve resilience, which is critical in the face of accelerating natural disasters.

The ADB’s emergency assistance aims to ensure that people in the disaster areas have access to medical and social services and resources to rebuild their lives and livelihoods. The ADB will continue to work closely with the government and other development partners to deliver humanitarian assistance in line with the United Nation’s Resident Coordinator Disaster Response Plan, he said.
