Five Yemeni soldiers were killed in an attack by "Al-Qaeda elements" near the only gas terminal in the southeast of the country. Gunmen suddenly entered the checkpoint of the Balhaf gas terminal in Shabwa province, killing one security guard before sneaking in and killing four soldiers as they were sleeping. Last week, a spokesperson for the Yemen government said that the 4.5 billion USD terminal is one of two energy plants that Al Qaeda might target. On August 8, the Yemen government foiled an Al Qaeda plot to attack a Canadian oil terminal.
