Australia considers importing Vietnamese fresh dragon fruit
(VOVworld) - Fresh dragon fruit is one of the agricultural imports given top priority by Australia, according to a press release from the Australian Embassy in Vietnam on Wednesday.
Australia earlier completed a preliminary check of their fruit for pests and diseases that involved cooperation between the two governments. Next, Vietnam and Australia will collaborate to identify risks in dragon fruit production and export procedures. A draft report outlining these risks will be released at the end of this year. The Australian Embassy in Vietnam said Australia will conduct a similar review of other fresh fruit from Vietnam. Last year, some 28 tons of fresh lychees from Vietnam were sold in the Australian market. Australia completed risk evaluation for Vietnamese mangos last November.
