At the meeting, Commissioner Outram applauded the positive developments in the Australia-Vietnam relationship, particularly in the field of security and defense after the two upgraded their relationship to a Strategic Partnership.

Commissioner Outram said that during his visit to Vietnam last May, ABF and Vietnamese partner agencies achieved many positive results through many cooperation programs.

Ambassador Tam welcomed the signing of an Investigation Cooperation Plan in the field of customs and a Letter of Intent to negotiate a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation between the Vietnam Border Guard Command and the ABF.

Mr. Tam said he hopes the two sides will soon sign the Memorandum of Understanding, and proposed that they continue to coordinate to implement the results of Prime Minister Chinh's official visit to Australia earlier this year in the field of security and defense.
