Paris Olympics 2024: Vietnamese rower Pham Thi Hue advances to quarterfinals

(VOVWORLD) - On Sunday Vietnamese rower Pham Thi Hue secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the women's heavyweight single sculls rowing event after a successful play-off round. Pham Thi Hue's performance clocked in at 8 minutes 0 seconds 97, earning her 2nd place. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Monday morning (July 29, Paris time).

In other events the same day, shooter Le Thi Mong Tuyen did not advance to the finals in the women's 10m rifle event. She ranked 40th out of 43 participants.

Vietnamese shooter Trinh Thu Vinh ranked fourth at the women’s 10-metre air pistol finale on Sunday, missing out on winning a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic event. Vinh scored 198.6 points after seven shooting series.

Smashing the Olympic record with 243.2 points, Oh Ye-jin from the Republic of Korea bagged the gold medal. Her compatriot Kim Ye-ji won silver, and Bhaker Manu from India took the bronze.

Earlier, Vinh punched a ticket to the finale by scoring 578 points after six ten-shot series, ranking 4th in the qualification round.

On Saturday, Vietnamese boxer Vo Thi Kim Anh competed in the round of 16 in the 54kg weight category but was defeated 0-5 by India's Preeti Pawar, ending her journey at the Paris Olympics.

As of morning July 28, the medal tally sees the Australian team in the lead with 3 gold and 2 silver medals. The Chinese team follows in 2nd place with 3 gold and 1 bronze medal, while the US team holds 3rd place with 1 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals. France and South Korea round out the top 5 positions.
