34 years after Pol Pot's genocidal regime was overthrown (7/1/1979) the People Newspaper – the central agency of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) - printed an editorial celebrating this milestone in the country’s history as the foundation of Cambodia’s achievements over the last 34 years. The editorial cheered the liberation of Cambodians from the genocidal regime of Pol Pot from 1975 to 1979. The National Unity Front of Cambodia overthrew Pol Pot and revived the country under the leadership of Chae Sim, Heng Samrin and Hun Sen, with timely help from Vietnamese volunteer soldiers. The editorial said that with that victory 34 years ago, Cambodia was revived and since then has been constantly evolving.
