(VOVworld) – A ceremony was held at Quang Duc monastery in Ho Chi Minh city on Sunday to commemorate 51 years of the self-immolation and cremation of Monk Thich Quang Duc.

The event highlighted the sacrifice and patriotism of Thich Quang Duc and called on Buddhist followers and organizations to enhance patriotism and join global efforts to maintain peace and freedom. Venerable Thich Quang Duc was born in 1897 in Khanh Hoa. On April 20^th, 1963, he burned himself during a march of more than 800 Buddhist dignitaries and followers. His self-immolation shocked the world and spread fear to the Ngo Dinh Diem puppet regime.
