China responds to Trump’s letter to WHO Director General

(VOVWORLD) - In response to US President Donald Trump's letter sent to the WHO Director General, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian on Tuesday said the US President is "trying to mislead the public, smear China's efforts, and shift the blame of US incompetence to others.”

Zhao said WHO membership contributions are jointly determined by the member states and cannot be unilaterally determined by the US, adding that paying assessed contributions on time is the obligation of the members. 

Addressing the 73rd World Health Assembly (WHA) on Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping said China will provide 2 billion USD over two years to support the Covid-19 response. China will work with the UN to set up a global humanitarian response depot and hub in China, ensure the operation of anti-epidemic supply chains, and foster “green corridors” for fast-track transportation and customs clearance.
