Countries call for an end of violence in Myanmar

(VOVWORLD) - The international community expresses concern about tension in Myanmar and calls for an end of violence and dialogues to solve problems, officials said at a UN Security Council meeting on Friday.

Countries praised ASEAN’s efforts and urged the bloc to work harder to find a solution for Myanmar.

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN said Vietnam is closely following the situation in Myanmar, adding that violence and escalation has harmed peace, security, and development in Myanmar and the region. Mr. Quy called on parties to restraint, end violence, ensure civilian’s safety, and promote dialogues to create favorable conditions for a smooth democratic process. ASEAN is willing to support Myanmar in a goodwill manner and in accordance with purposes, principles and procedures as regulated in the ASEAN Charter, Quy stressed.
