Cuba, US discuss easing embargo

(VOVworld) – US Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker and Cuban Foreign Trade Minister Rodrigo Malmierca met in Havana, Cuba on Monday to talk about the scope and limitations of the measures recently adopted by the US government to ease its embargo on Cuba. Pritzker called the re-establishment of the diplomatic ties between the US and Cuba a bold step, saying Washington is seeking a more open relationship with Havana.

Malmierca characterized positively the measures taken by President Barack Obama, but he said they are still insufficient, given the executive powers of the American leader. He said the blockade is the main obstacle to make progress in normalizing ties between the two countries.
