Da Nang debuts hotline to protect children from sexual abuse

(VOVWORLD) - Da Nang city on Monday commissioned a hotline to protect children and adolescents from sexual abuse.

A call center will receive reports of abuse and provide consultations for parents regarding online child abuse. The hotline is part of a project to safeguard children and adolescents from cyber sexual abuse by World Vision International in Vietnam and the End Violence Against Children (EVAC) Fund.

Nguyen Van Quoc, Director of the Da Nang public service center which runs the hotline, said, "We’re planning to publicize the hotline so it will be widely used. We’ll also train the hotline operators to handle the calls appropriately."

The call center will advise parents on how to manage their child’s Internet access to reduce their risk of being sexually abused.

About 2,600 cases of sexual violence against children were reported in 2017-2018, according to the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security.
