(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stressed the need to integrate national defense and security into socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta, as he chaired a conference in Hanoi on Monday on ensuring security and public order to support socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta region.

The Mekong Delta and its surrounding areas are strategically important in terms of politics, socio-economics, national defense, security, ecological environment, and foreign relations, the Prime Minister said, calling it the southern "gateway" of the country which is closely linked to national construction and defense.
He requested a focus on implementing five key tasks, including a close integration of socio-economic development and national defense and security, starting from the grassroots level.

Prime Minister Chinh urged for implementing ethnic and religious policies; carrying out economic, cultural, and social development programs, creating jobs; boosting the positive spirit and self-reliance among ethnic minorities in socio-economic development, preserving traditional culture and beliefs, and improving living standards of local ethnic minorities.
In 2026, the Prime Minister has assigned ministries, sectors, and localities to complete seven major groups of tasks, focusing primarily on caring for and developing the economy, culture, education, and health in the Mekong Delta region.
