The Mekong Delta and its surrounding areas are strategically important in terms of politics, socio-economics, national defense, security, ecological environment, and foreign relations, the Prime Minister said, calling it the southern "gateway" of the country which is closely linked to national construction and defense.

He requested a focus on implementing five key tasks, including a close integration of socio-economic development and national defense and security, starting from the grassroots level.
