According to a meeting of the event’s steering board chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son on Monday, the event will attract major tech firms, researchers, and international media outlets. On the sidelines, 8 discussions, 32 workshops, and 20 exhibition booths will focus on science, technology, digital transformation, cybersecurity, and cybercrime prevention.
At the meeting, Deputy PM Son said the UN’s decision to let Hanoi host the event is a milestone, the first time such a critical global convention has been held at a Vietnamese venue. He called on all subcommittees to step up their effort to ensure the highest quality planning and implementation, so that the Convention signing ceremony will be a success.
The UN Convention against Cybercrime originated in 2019 with the drafting of the first universal instrument in this field. Vietnam and other UN members supported negotiations for this landmark document.
After eight formal negotiation sessions and five intersessional meetings between February 2022 and August 2024, the UN General Assembly officially adopted the convention on December 24, 2024.
