Security stations and barriers have been set up along the main streets and surrounding areas of Sharm El-Sheikh city, where the event will be held from November 6-18.
Egypt has also tightened security in Sharm El-Sheikh international airport.
Areas restricted to only UN officials called the “Green Zone” included Sharm El-Sheikh International Convention and Peace Park Botanical Garden, where events for local businesses, youths, communities, academics, and artists will be held.
Egyptian officials said leaders attending the COP27 conference may become the targets for militant groups, despite no clear threats so far.
COP27 is expected to welcome more than 35,000 international delegates including 100 government leaders. Around 3,000 foreign correspondents have signed up for the event.
