EU confirms reimposition of Iran sanctions
(VOVWORLD) - The European Union on Monday confirmed it has reimposed sweeping sanctions on Iran because of its nuclear program, following the UN’s decision a day earlier to reinstate its measures, after France, the UK, and Germany triggered the so-called “snapback” mechanism of the 2015 nuclear accord.

The renewed EU sanctions include restrictions banning any involvement in Tehran’s nuclear and ballistic missile activities and wide-ranging unilateral measures, such as prohibiting Iran’s purchase and transport of crude oil, natural gas, and petrochemicals, as well as the sale or supply of gold and certain naval equipment. In addition, the EU announced asset freezes on the Iranian Central Bank and other lenders, and travel bans on several Iranian officials.
The British government imposed sanctions Monday on dozens of individuals and entities linked to Iran. 71 names were added to London’s sanctions list, including senior officials tied to Iran’s nuclear program and major financial and energy organizations. Those designated will face asset freezes, financial restrictions, and travel bans.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian denounced the measures, insisting Iran has never pursued nuclear weapons. He condemned all sanctions as illegitimate and reiterated that the Islamic Republic is ready to engage in transparent negotiations aimed at reaching a fair and reasonable resolution to the nuclear issue.
