European businesses confident in Vietnam's ability to navigate global trade tensions

(VOVWORLD) - The Business Confidence Index of European businesses in Vietnam reached 64.6 in the first quarter of this year, reflecting a sentiment that was steady but cautious, optimistic but watchful.

The figure comes from a survey released by the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) April 4, conducted by Decision Lab from March 10-27, before the US announced new reciprocal tariffs and ahead of a wave of changes in global trade policies.

According to the report, Vietnam’s stable economic growth and positive GDP forecasts have helped reassure investors. Around 42% of surveyed businesses expressed a neutral stance on the current business environment, while many acknowledged promising trade and investment opportunities, as well as the recovery of consumer spending and tourism.

The report also highlights those European businesses value Vietnam’s flexibility in international relations, supported by the government’s tactful yet decisive response to global challenges. More than 68% of European business leaders said they would recommend Vietnam as a long-term investment destination, showing their strong confidence in the country's potential.

Regarding administrative reform, many companies are hopeful about considerable progress by 2026. Over 40% of businesses believe that merging provinces could enhance administrative efficiency and reduce regulatory complexity. About 44% of respondents said their operations would run more efficiently if the number of provinces were reduced to fewer than 30.

EuroCham emphasized that Vietnam’s ongoing internal reforms, combined with its strategic approach to external challenges, continue to reinforce the confidence of the European business community in the country's economic outlook.

EuroCham Chairman Bruno Jaspaert noted that Vietnam’s economic resilience stems not only from its growth figures, but also from its adaptability, through both internal restructuring and foreign policy, amid the evolving global landscape. He stressed that emerging challenges require unity to transform difficulties into opportunities.
