FAO vows to fight poverty, hunger, food insecurity

(VOVworld) – The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) pledged efforts in the fight against hunger, poverty, and food insecurity at the 39th Session of the FAO Conference that opened in Rome on Saturday.

Themed "Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty and Hunger by Strengthening Rural Resilience: Social Protection and Sustainable Agricultural Development", the event attracted representatives from 194 member states. Vietnamese delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Cong Tuan. Incumbent FAO Director-General Jose Graziano da Silva was re-elected to a second term running from 31 July 2015 to through July 2019. FAO also honored countries that have fulfilled millennium development goals (MDGs) and those making remarkable progress in reducing poverty, including Vietnam. This was the second consecutive time Vietnam has been honored by FAO.
