Vietnam has attracted more than US$9.5 billion in registered FDI during the past nine months, up 72 percent against the same period last year. The Ministry of Planning and Investment's Foreign Investment Agency reported that in September alone, FDI businesses poured more than US$1 billion into the country. The processing and manufacturing industries took the lead in terms of newly and additionally registered FDI capital of US$6.2 billion, accounting for 65.5 percent of the total FDI. Real estate ranked second, attracting US$2 billion with eight projects. Japan remains the country's leading source of foreign investment, recording a total registered capital of US$4.7 billion. Samoa and the Republic of Korea ranked second and third respectively.
