Cuba's news agency Prensa Latina highlighted the enthusiasm of Vietnamese voters when they went to the polls on Sunday morning, and the thorough preparations for the event. The UK news agency Reuters reported that some 69 million Vietnamese are registered to vote for representatives to the 500-seat National Assembly. Reuters quoted Nguyen Hanh Phuc, NA Secretary General and Chief of the National Election Council as saying that all 870 candidates, including those who are not Party members and nominated themselves to run as independents, have been treated equally.
Many other major news outlets in the US, Australia, China, and Thailand - AP, ABC News, Xinhua, and the Nation - ran stories highlighting Vietnam’s important political event.
