World media covers Vietnam’s National Assembly election

(VOVworld) – On Sunday, major news agencies in the world covered Vietnam’s election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils, saying this significant political event shows democracy in Vietnam.

Chinese Xinhua News agency reported that the election started at 7 a.m local time at 91,476 polling stations across the country on Sunday. As many as 500 deputies will be elected to the 14th National Assembly of Vietnam out of 870 candidates. The UK-based News Agency Reuters quoted Nguyen Hanh Phuc, National Assembly Secretary General as saying all 870 candidates are treated equally, including those who are not Party members and nominated themselves to run as independents. He said voting is the right and responsibility of each person to contribute to national construction.

The Voice of America said the election day is a great festival for Vietnamese people.
