France calls for unity after national protests

(VOVWORLD) - The French government on Wednesday urged citizens to calm the protests that have raged nationwide for more than two weeks, and signalled it was ready to make further concessions to avoid more violence.

President Emmanuel Macron called on rival political leaders and trade unions to help tamp down the anti-government anger that on Saturday led to some of the worst rioting in Paris in decades. He accused certain entities of pursuing nothing but ruining French Republic. In Parliament, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe called for the opposition camp’s responsibility for  the security of French people and institutions.
