Mr. Xi said China treasures the traditional friendly neighborliness with Vietnam and promised that China will continue to support Vietnam in its role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021, and ASEAN Chair in 2020.
He expressed his readiness to work with Vietnam’s leaders to promote substantial and effective cooperation across multiple fields, expand the China-Vietnam relationship, bring practical benefits to both peoples, and maintain peace and stability in the region and the world. He lauded the success Vietnam has had in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and in maintaining cooperation and coordination with China.
Mr. Trong said that for seven decades, friendship and cooperation have been the mainstay of the relationship between Vietnam and China. He noted that the two countries have carried out a number of activities this year that have strengthened their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
He urged the two sides to address their existing problems, especially their maritime issues, in a spirit of shared perceptions in line with international law and thus maintain a peaceful and stable environment for the development of each Party and each country.
