In his remarks, Party General Secretary Lam said Vietnam has no other option but to regard science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as the foremost breakthroughs and the major driving forces for renewing Vietnam’s development model and realizing its two centennial goals.

"We need to implement the Action Program for the development of 11 strategic technologies in accordance with Resolution 57, with clearly defined roadmaps for mastery of semiconductors, artificial intelligence, big data, cybersecurity and cryptography, biotechnology, biomedicine, new materials, new energy, electronics, sensors, and robotics," Party General Secretary Lam said.

"At the same time, we need to develop fundamental digital infrastructure, including cloud computing, high-performance computing, data centers, and 5G and 6G networks; increase the local content in critical technology systems; ensure confident international integration and safeguard the nation’s core capabilities,"  he added.

Party General Secretary Lam urged universities and research institutes to speed up technology transfer and enable research teams to set up commercial enterprises to bring products to market, with the aim of creating a generation of fast-growing tech firms and, eventually, Vietnamese tech unicorns.

Prime Minister Chính called on ministries, sectors, and localities to act decisively in innovation, ensuring that administrative procedures do not create obstacles and that the space for innovation is not restricted for any organization or individual. At the same time, he expressed his hope that international partners would provide technical assistance, share experience, and help Vietnam build policy frameworks, infrastructure, and resources for innovation, and provide financial support for technology transfer, particularly in priority sectors, strategic technologies, and the development of R&D centers.

In 2024, the Prime Minister designated October 1 each year as National Innovation Day. With the theme “Innovation by All – Driving Force for National Development”, the event affirms the determination of the Party and State to promote innovation as a strategic cornerstone of socio-economic development, enhancing productivity and competitiveness, and ensuring sustainable growth.
