General Secretary To Lam meets Speaker of Malaysian House of Representatives

(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary To Lam received on Thursday Tan Sri Dato’ Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from October 22-25.

During the meeting, General Secretary To Lam praised the strong traditional friendship between Vietnam and Malaysia. He expressed his appreciation for the outcomes of the discussions between Speaker Johari and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, as well as the productive cooperation between the two countries' parliaments in law-making, enforcement, and oversight.

To further strengthen political trust, the General Secretary suggested increasing high-level exchanges and collaboration on issues of mutual concern. He also called for enhanced economic, trade, and investment cooperation, with the goal of raising bilateral trade to 18 billion USD by 2025.

Vietnam, he noted, is committed to facilitating Malaysian investors and encouraging Vietnamese enterprises to invest in Malaysia, especially in new technology, digital transformation, and clean energy. He also emphasized the importance of defense and security cooperation between the two countries. 

Speaker Johari shared his positive impressions of Vietnam and its people. He highlighted Malaysia's role as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2025, pledging efforts to build a prosperous ASEAN Community.

He expressed a desire to work closely with Vietnam to promote friendship, peace, and stability in Southeast Asia, while enhancing ASEAN's regional influence.
