The bill passed by a vote of 230 – 68. The legislation, which covers changes to the civil justice system, a bank deposit protection scheme, and measures to shore up the liquidity of Greece's banks, is said to be less controversial than the reform bill with stricter measures passed on July 16th.
Earlier, the European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council decided to increase the Emergency Liquidity Assistance (ELA) to Greek banks by 900 million euros. The decision was made following a phone discussion by the ECB Governing Council on Wednesday in which they agreed to raise the cap on ELA for Greek banks to 90 billion euros.
