The proposal from Egypt and Qatar is said to be based on a framework put forward by US envoy Steve Witkoff in June, calling for a two-month cessation of hostilities and a phased prisoner exchange. Witkoff proposed a 60-day truce that would see the release of 10 living hostages by Hamas and the bodies of 18 other hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Israeli forces will move closer to the Gaza-Israel border, and humanitarian aid will be allowed into Gaza. Negotiations for a broader deal to permanently end the conflict and ensure Gaza’s post-conflict future will take place as soon as the 60-day truce ends.

The UK Home Office said between 30 and 50 critically ill or injured Palestinian children will be evacuated in the coming weeks from Gaza to the UK for medical treatment within the National Health Service (NHS). They will be the first children brought to the UK for treatment as part of a government operation being coordinated by the Foreign Office, Home Office, Department of Health, and the World Health Organization (WHO).
