The United Nations and many international organisations have called the signing ceremony in Hanoi on Saturday a major milestone for international cooperation on cybersecurity.
"I think that the week has the Secretary-General of the United Nations coming here and also to participate in the United Nations' 80th anniversary that will take place here in Vietnam, hosted by your government. This is, I think, for our Secretary-General to put that trust and faith in Vietnam's government to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the United Nations here in Hanoi, it cannot show in any stronger way the trust that we have in Vietnam's government and its role in terms of multilateralism within the UN,” said Glen Prichard, Chief of Cybercrime and Technology Section at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
“The fact that they put their hands up and the commitments that they have shown in bringing us to this point in this signing ceremony is testament to their strong placement in the international setting at the moment. We're very happy to be partnering with them in support of this endeavor and obviously, this is the launching pad of something that we see as much greater going forward in terms of our partnership and cooperation with the Vietnam's government,” he added.
Ms. Le Hong Loan, a representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), said, “Vietnam has organized many activities in support of the UN's convention and has  contributed to its content. We appreciate Vietnam’s efforts, proactiveness, and commitments to ensure cyberspace is safe for children."
The Hanoi Convention signing ceremony has been well-covered by major news outlets around the world like Reuters and the Japan Times, Daily Times of Bangladesh, and Modern Diplomacy.
They hailed the Convention as the first global framework to comprehensively combat cybercrime and called the signing ceremony in Hanoi a symbol of global connectivity, dialog, and multilateral cooperation for a safe, trustworthy, and sustainable cyberspace.
