According to Lieutenant-colonel Nguyen Huu Tuyen of the Hanoi Capital High Command, the primary motivation of people’s consensus and united strength to defend Vietnam’s sea and islands is sufficient historical and legal evidence to prove its sovereignty, which conforms to the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. They are an important legal base for Vietnam’s management and development of its marine economy.
