Addressing a New Year gathering on Monday with the foreign diplomatic corps in HCMC, Mr. Mai said that in addition to its internal strength, Ho Chi Minh City needs the support of international friends and partners through Consulates, economic-trade-cultural offices, international organizations, and foreign business associations in HCMC.

“I hope that you’ll truly consider the city your second home and join efforts with the municipal government and people to adopt new mindset for the new development period,” Mai noted.

Josefine Wallat, German Consul General and Head of the consular corps in HCM City, said that both countries are working hard to improve and strengthen bilateral trade.

“Many of our companies are looking at Vietnam and, in particular at HCMC and the surrounding provinces for further direct investment. It’s well placed, having signed many free trade agreements,” said Wallat, adding, “The fact that it has still relatively young and eager population is also a great advantage to keep on attracting a high level of FDI. Vietnam should aim to be a leading destination by offering the best conditions to investors in the region”
