(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam always bears in mind the valuable support that the people of the former Soviet Union and Russia have provided Vietnam during its past struggle for national independence and its current national development process, Party General Secretary To Lam said during a reception for visiting Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin in Hanoi on Tuesday.

Vietnam attaches special importance to its traditional ties and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, Mr. Lam said, adding that the country considers Russia a top priority partner in its foreign policy.
The Party chief also highlighted several major directions to further deepen Vietnam-Russia relations.
PM Mishustin reiterated President Putin’s invitation to Party General Secretary Lam to attend the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and to visit Russia in 2025.
He said that Russia always values the Vietnamese people's friendship and affection towards Russia.
Mr. Mishustin affirmed that in its foreign policy, Russia considers Vietnam one of its most important partners in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in Southeast Asia. Russia stands ready to expand cooperation and deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam in all fields, he said.

At a reception for the Russian guest the same day, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that Vietnam supports Russia in enhancing its presence in the Asia-Pacific region and strengthening cooperation with ASEAN.
Vietnam hopes that Russia will make contributions to development, peace, and shared prosperity in the region; and back the stance of ASEAN and Vietnam in addressing disputes in the East Sea through peaceful means, based on respect for international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), he added.
PM Mishustin affirmed that Russia highly values its comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam.
