The Cuban minister said that Abdala vaccine has undergone three phases of clinical trials, showing that it has the ability to prevent variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. However, this vaccine has not been tested in humans in any country, he said.
According to the Cuban Health Minister, the production capacity of the Abdala vaccine can be up to 100 million doses per year, but Cuba only uses about 30 million doses for the domestic market.
The Cuban side is ready to sign a cooperation agreement with Vietnam on the supply of Abdala vaccine and work with Vietnam to transfer vaccine production technology. If Vietnam has a greater demand for vaccines, Cuba will open two more factories to meet Vietnam's needs, he said.
Minister Long thanked Cuba's goodwill, affirming that the Ministry of Health of Vietnam fully supports this cooperation and assigned the Nha Trang Institute of Vaccines and Biologicals (IVAC) to be the focal point in receiving technology transfer and manufacturing Abdala vaccine.
