Holy See wants stronger relations with Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - The Holy See always wants to develop its relations with Vietnam and encourages the Vietnamese Catholic community to lead a good life in both secular and religious aspects.

This remark was made by Under-Secretary for the Holy See’s Relations with States Antoine Camilleri at a reception in Hanoi on Tuesday hosted by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The Vietnamese Prime Minister said that national unity is a major policy of the Vietnamese government which steadfastly respects its people’s freedom of religion and belief and creates the best possible conditions for all religions to be practiced in accordance with Vietnam’s laws. Mr. Phuc asked for the Holy See’s continued support for Catholic activity in Vietnam.

Camilleri affirmed that the Pope always gives special attention to Vietnam and wants the Vietnam Catholic Church to contribute to the country’s prosperity. He said he believes in fruitful future relations between Vietnam and the Holy See. Camilleri is in Vietnam for the 7th round of meetings of their joint working group.
