Hundreds of thousands of displaced people in Gaza face flooding risks
(VOVWORLD) - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) of the United Nations announced on Friday that hundreds of thousands of displaced people in Gaza are facing the risk of flooding after heavy rains on December 11 inundated hundreds of tents that are accommodating families displaced by nearly two years of conflict.
Construction materials for shelters and sandbags are not permitted to enter Gaza. Although a ceasefire has been maintained since October, much of the territory’s infrastructure has been destroyed, leaving living conditions extremely poor.
UN and Palestinian officials say there is an urgent need for at least 300,000 new tents for approximately 1.5 million people still living in temporary conditions.
