The October report was released at Tuesday’s annual meeting of the IMF and the World Bank (WB). The IMF forecast that the world's gross domestic product (GDP) will contract 4.4% this year, less than the 5.2% projected in June.

According to the IMF, along with the fast, timely, and large-scale response of governments, other contributors to a brighter global economic outlook is that some economies performed better than expected in the second quarter and many even showed signs of recovery in the third quarter of 2020.

The IMF said the economic outlook for 2020 improved in most developed and emerging economies, including the US, Europe, Brazil and Russia. However, the forecast is not so positive for Southeast Asia and India.
