(VOVWORLD) - More than 1,400 people were killed, 100 are missing, and thousands are injured in areas struck by earthquake in Indonesia, national disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told reporters on Wednesday.

The Indonesian government has established 150 camps for the estimated 70,000 homeless people and is bolstering rescue efforts with 1,200 additional soldiers and police officers.
The same day, President Joko Widodo arrived to inspect rescue activities in Central Sulawesi province. An Indonesian warship on Tuesday delivered 360 volunteers and emergency supplies to the province.
