In a statement, Araghchi said that most of the projectiles fired were intercepted by Iran’s defense systems, but the attack led to damage at the target points, as well as the death of four soldiers.

The diplomat said the Israeli attack was a clear violation of the sovereignty of Iran, which reserves the inherent right to respond.

Israel said it had attacked locations in Iran in retaliation for the October 1 attack on the country. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel's airstrike on Iran was "precise and powerful" and achieved its goals.

The Security Council said it would convene a meeting on Monday in New York at Iran's request. Israel's Ambassador to the UN Danny Dannon said he will protect Israel's right to self-defense.
