Iran urges IAEA to stop looking for undisclosed nuclear sites

(VOVWORLD) - Iran’s president Ebrahim Raisi said Monday that reviving the 2015 nuclear deal is pointless unless the UN nuclear watchdog ends its search for undeclared nuclear sites in Iran.

President Raisi’s statement came as Tehran reviews the US response to its adjustments to the final draft of an agreement designed to salvage the 2015 deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Iran has repeatedly urged the IAEA to end its probe before any revived deal takes effect.

In June, the IAEA’s board of governors adopted a resolution censuring Iran for failing to adequately explain the previous discovery of traces of enriched uranium at three sites not declared by Tehran as having hosted nuclear activities.

In early August, Iran argued that the issues surrounding the undeclared sites are political in nature and should not be used as a pretext for abuse against Iran in the future.
