Earlier, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Israeli attack killed 16 people, including Syrian and foreign fighters. This has been the first attack that killed an Iranian security official since the Israeli strike on the Iranian Embassy complex in Syria on April 1, heightening tensions between Iran and Israel.
Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks on its northern neighbor since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war, mainly targeting military positions and Iranian-backed militant groups, including Hezbollah forces.
