Israel affirms prolonged conflict with Hamas

(VOVWORLD) -Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that the Gaza conflict is far from over, adding that only a continued offensive in Gaza can pressure Hamas to release its hostages.

He denied reports that the Israeli Government is considering a ceasefire with Hamas.

Iranian media reported the death of an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps general in an Israeli army airstrike on the outskirts of Damascus, Syria. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi condemned the incident as a criminal act and said that retaliatory measures will be taken.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry talked by phone with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Monday to discuss recent developments in the Gaza Strip and ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire there.

During the call, Shoukry emphasized the importance of fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2720 and ensuring unimpeded access to humanitarian aid in Gaza. He also called for the establishment of a UN mechanism to facilitate and monitor the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
