Italian nurse tests positive for Ebola virus
(VOVworld) – An Italian nurse working with medical charity Emergency tested positive for the Ebola virus on Tuesday. The Italian Health Ministry said the 37-year-old male paramedic has worked in Sierra Leone, one of the countries hardest hit by Ebola, since February. He began exhibiting Ebola symptoms late Sunday, 2 days after returning home from Africa. His blood sample submitted to Rome's Spallanzani hospital found him infected with Ebola virus. He was immediately quarantined and transferred to Rome for treatment. The nurse is reported to be in stable condition and undergoing strict monitoring.

On Tuesday, the Kenyan government lifted its entry ban on travelers from Liberia. The decision came after the World Health Organization declared Liberia an Ebola-free country last week with no new case reported in 42 days. Kenyan Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said Kenya will continue to screen all travelers to Kenya from Liberia and other countries until the outbreak is controlled throughout the world.
