(VOVworld) – On Wednesday, Italy’s former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was found guilty and sentenced to 3 years in prison by a court in Naples, Italy, for bribing a senator to switch factions in a move which helped topple the Italian government in 2008.
A former journalist who was the middle-man in this case received a similar sentence. The prosecution had requested the maximum sentence for corruption, which is 5 years for Mr.Berlusconi, who served as Italy’s Prime Minister for 3 consecutive terms.
Berlusconi just completed one year of community service for his conviction on charges of financial fraud and tax evasion while running the largest broadcasting company in the country, Mediaset, where he was the owner.
