Japan, US seek strongest sanctions against DPRK

(VOVworld) – Top envoys from Japan and the United States agreed to seek the strongest possible measures against the Democratic Republic of Korea on Sunday, two days after Pyongyang conducted its fifth nuclear test despite global opposition.

Sung Kim, US special representative for DPRK policy told reporters following his meeting with Kenji Kanasugi, director general of the Japanese Foreign Ministry’s Asian and Oceania Affairs Bureau in Tokyo that the US and Japan will work closely in the UN Security Council to come out with the strongest possible measures against DPRK’s actions. Both the US and Japan, together with the Republic of Korea will be looking at unilateral and bilateral measures, Kim said, without going into further detail.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of ROK said on Saturday that nuclear envoys of ROK and China agreed on continued contact and cooperation to restrain DPRK from its nuclear ambition.
