Japanese PM makes surprise visit to Ukraine

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Fumio Kishida made an unannounced visit to Ukraine on Tuesday to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky, becoming the first Japanese leader to travel to the country since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

This is also the first time a Japanese PM has visited a country or region with ongoing fighting since World War II.

Zelenskyy asked Kishida to visit when they talked by phone in January.

Before Ukraine, Kishida visited India, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
