Latin American economy hit hard by COVID-19

(VOVWORLD) - The Covid-19 pandemic has now affected 213 countries and territories, with more than 5.78 million infections and a global death toll exceeding 356,800 as of Thursday morning, according to worldometers.info.

The epidemic has slowed in Asia, Europe, and the US, where people are turning to economic recovery efforts. But many Latin American countries are still at the peak of the pandemic and unprecedented economic damage has been forecast. Everyone is anxious for economic recovery, but health officials are warning of a possible second wave of pandemic.

In the past 24 hours, Brazil has recorded nearly 1,100 deaths. Brazil has had the world’s highest Covid-19 death toll for 5 days in a row. Meanwhile, Latin America’s economic index has dropped to its lowest level in 31 years. All 11 Latin American countries analyzed in a report released this week recorded their worst economic performance in decades in the first four months of this year.
