Iran launches 700 missiles, UAVs at UAE, targets US aircraft carrier

(VOVWORLD) -Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have continued its counterattacks on Israel and numerous targets in the Persian Gulf region, where the US military maintains bases. 

The UAE is believed to be the most heavily affected country. The IRGC also said it struck a US aircraft carrier strike group in the region, although it provided no evidence.

According to the UAE Ministry of Defense, over the past two days, Iran has launched a total of 165 ballistic missiles and 541 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) towards UAE territory. UAE air defenses intercepted 152 Iranian missiles and destroyed 506 drones. 3 deaths and 58 injuries were reported. The Iranian attacks also caused a major fire at the Al Salam Naval Base in Abu Dhabi, but there were no reported casualties.

The IRGC claimed it had struck the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group in the Persian Gulf with four ballistic missiles.

Meanwhile, the US military called the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ claim a “lie” in a post on X on Sunday. “The Lincoln was not hit. The missiles launched didn’t even come close,” the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in the post.

Israeli officials confirmed nine deaths in an Iranian missile attack on Beit Shemesh, West Jerusalem. CENTCOM announced on Sunday that three US serviemen were killed and five others seriously wounded in the ongoing conflict with Iran. CENTCOM did not provide further details about the circumstances leading to the casualties.

On the political front, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Sunday the establihsment of an interim leadership council following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. President Pezeshkian affirmed that Iran's interim leadership continues to follow the path laid out by the Supreme Leader.
