(VOVworld) - Militias fighting for control of the airport in Libya’s capital of Tripoli agreed to a 24-hour ceasefire to allow firefighters to battle a fire at its oil depot. Local authorities said Tuesday that the cease-fire agreement, reached late Monday night and mediated by the Tripoli City Council, marked a rare pause in the two weeks of fighting in Libya. The oil tank containing six million liters of fuel was set ablaze by rocket fire late last Sunday. If it is not controlled, the fire could spread to nearby oil reserves. Meanwhile, in Benghazi, the second largest city in Libya, armed conflicts prompted many diplomatic agencies to shut down including France and Portugal. The French government also announced a plan to evacuate its citizens out of Libya from Tuesday. Over the past two weeks, Libya has seen the bloodiest conflict since Moamer Kadhafi was overthrown in 2011. 97 people have been killed and more than 400 others wounded in this wave of violence.
