More than 100 IS suspects arrested in Turkey over Christmas terror attack plot
(VOVWORLD) - Turkish authorities have detained 115 suspected Islamic State members, who were planning to carry out attacks on Christmas and New Year celebrations in the country, the Istanbul chief prosecutor's office said on Thursday.
Police raided 124 places in Istanbul, capturing 115 of the 137 suspects they were seeking, the statement said. Several pistols and ammunition were seized, it said.
The arrests come days after Turkish authorities conducted a major intelligence-led operation at the Afghanistan-Pakistan border and captured a Turkish citizen accused of having a senior position in IS.
